A SUPERB MAHOGANY CASED LATERNDLUHR REGULATOR WITH MAPLE WOOD STRINGING TO THE CASE. CIRCA 1850.

A mahogany cased laterndluhr regulator of the highest quality. The case of typical form but extremely elegant with lift out doors to the base and to the trunk and with all doors and inside carcase wood veneered. The mahogany veneers on the backboard and on the main parts of the case are highly figured and are beautifully set off by the maple wood stringing.

The dial of milk glass, with typical regulator layout. The movement is one of the best quality regulator movements we have seen in Viennese clock. All the wheelwork has eight crossings. The plates are exceptionally thick for Viennese work and the beautifully executed anchor has adjustable steel pallets. The movement has maintaining power and there are signs that there were at one stage electrical contacts fitted to the clock.

The pendulum is a five rod gridiron with four steel rods and one zinc rod and has a massive brass bob with a blued pointer at the end. Gridiron pendulums with zinc rather than brass and steel are unusual but were used by some of the best UK makers.
