MARRENZELLER IN WIEN.
AN ELEGANT AND ATTRACTIVE SECONDS BEATING MAHOGANY CASED LATERNDLUHR WITH CENTRE SWEEP SECONDS BY THIS WELL KNOWN MAKER. CIRCA 1830.

A beautifully proportioned week duration mahogany Laterndluhr. The case of typical style has an ogee moulded roof pediment to the lift off hood. The opening door to the hood, the pediment and all other parts of the case are edge inlaid with maplewood. The central trunk of the clock with a lift out door is relatively narrow and proceeds into the pendulum box, again with a lift out door. The clock has a typical under curved base and stabilizing screws to the side.

The eight day weight driven movement has deadbeat escapement, maintaining power and knife edge suspension to the steel rod seconds beating pendulum. It has a centre sweep seconds hand.

The enamel dial is signed for the maker ‘Marrenzeller in Wien’ and has finely painted Roman numerals inside the minute ring. It is enclosed within a nicely engine turned and gilded bezel. The blued steel hands are of beetle and poker style with a very fine counter balance centre sweep seconds hand. The movement and dial are mounted into the case via a substantial brass bracket which itself has level adjustment screws.

Length: 57" (145 cms.)

The maker, Ignatz Marrenzeller, is recorded as working from 1831 and won a silver medal in the Vienna Exhibition of 1835 and a gold medal in 1845. We have had a number of clocks by him and all are finely made. There are several clocks of his in the Sobek Collection.
