2702 A very elegant and unusually styled grande sonnerie striking Dachluhr. The case is transitional between the unadorned Dachluhr and the early Biedermeier period. It has a pedimented roof with boxwood stringing which then goes into a full length opening door with a rounded wooden top similar to a Laterndluhr. The door is also strung with boxwood. The under curved base of the clock is more reminiscent of the Biedermeier period rather than the slightly earlier Dachluhrs. The case has two stabilizing screws to the side above the ripple moulding which adorns the top of the base. The clock has an enamel dial with Roman numerals and nicely fretted out hands and is surrounded by a well cast gilded engine turned bezel. The eight day grande sonnerie striking movement strikes the quarters on two gongs mounted on the backplate. It has typical fine wheel work and a deadbeat escapement. The pendulum has a steel rod with a large brass bob and it runs against a silvered brass beat plaque mounted in the base of the case. Unfortunately, the clock has lost its signature and, therefore, we do not know who the maker was. Length: 42" (107 cms.) |
