2685 An exceptional early Laterndluhr. The ebonised case with nicely moulded flat arch to the hood, which has an opening door. The clock has a lift out trunk door and a sliding bottom door. The base of the clock has solid sides often found on the early Laterndluhrs. The case is veneered in fruitwood and ebonised. The silvered and engine turned dial is a particularly nice feature. It has ornate engine turning to the centre and between the numeral cartouches on the chapter ring. It is signed for the maker but with a spelling mistake for the town Iglau which has been spelt Iglac. Although we have retouched the signature and numerals they were lightly engraved underneath and so it was felt that we should keep the alternative spelling. The dial is surrounded by a beautifully cast fire gilt bezel and has blued steel Breguet style hands. The seven rod mock gridiron pendulum has a large brass bob with calibrated rating nut. The month duration movement has most unusual wheel crossings which we have seen on another clock by this same maker. It has a deadbeat escapement and a very large great wheel with some 200 teeth and a very small diameter barrel projecting out of the backplate giving a large number of turns for the drop. It, therefore, gets its month duration without the use of an additional wheel. The movement is mounted on a round mounting plate onto which it is pinned. There is beat adjustment to the crutch. Length: 63" (160 cms.) |
