2595 A large and attractive grande sonnerie Biedermeier wall clock, the case of rosewood with a carved cresting to the top, round columns to the door and some small carved adornments to the front of the case. The under curved base eminating in a carved capital. The front door of the case has a lock which is only found on the best quality Biedermeier clocks. There is extensive boxwood stringing to the case including double stringing to the backboard. The eight day grande sonnerie striking movement of the usual quality found on Viennese clocks, strikes the quarters on two gongs mounted on the rear of the movement. The pendulum is a wood rod pendulum with a large brass bob and is nearly seconds beating, but no quite. The enamel dial is a particularly fine feature of the clock having blue numerals and additional ornamentation between the hours. The dial is surrounded by a gilded pie-crust bezel. The size of this clock, the quality of the case and the blue numerals on the dial make this an unusual and outstanding example. Height: 57" (145 cms.) |
