NO. 3.
CAMPBELL & ARCHARD, TONBRIDGE, NO. 3, 2010.

This clock was commissioned by one of our long term customers who had seen the original early 1800s Viennese clock on which it was based and wished to have a similar looking clock but with some modern changes to the movement.

The movement, which has been built by Gorge de Fossard, is of six months duration and employs a single plate with cocks and bridges to mount all of the wheel work. It has a fully adjustable deadbeat escapement. The pendulum is a five rod gridiron and, therefore, adjusts for temperature. The clock is driven by a relatively heavy oval weight which runs down behind the pendulum.

The dial has a beautiful engine turned bezel and engine turned, gilded inner section with a silvered chapter ring and silvered subsidiary ring for seconds and for the signature plaque. The hands are arrow shaped and counter balanced.

The case, which was made by Colin Buckwell, has particularly fine proportions. It has an ebonised back board which beautifully shows off the pendulum and weight and the rest of the case is in finely figured mahogany with boxwood stringing. It employs a slight taper to the trunk of the case and has exquisite detailing throughout. It stands some 6' high.

The backplate of the clock is signed ‘Campbell & Archard, Tonbridge, No 3, 2010’ and notes the clockmaker as George de Fossard and the cabinet maker as Colin Buckwell.
